6.10 lily forest

lilyforest

The lilies in the front bed are really coming into their own this year. The timing is such that at the moment, the front bed is green and pale yellow. The lilies are making a miniature forest, punctuated by the golden barberry and blocked at the left by the yellow flags. Purely serendipitously, the yellow of the flags is exactly the same as the yellow of the barberry.

Which makes it all the more annoying that I've realized that the yellow flag (iris pseudocorus) is not the same as the blue flag (iris versicolor) in the back. Whereas the blue flag is a native, the yellow flag is an import and, more to the point, is an invasive weed in wetlands. I really ought to take it out and replace it with something else. Grump.

2.25 poinsettia

Ok, I admit it's way past the time that most people worry about posting pictures of poinsettias, but this one is mine. The very first one I have had that actually bloomed again, with really big blooms. The length of time that it took to put out all the colorful bracts to full size rather amazed me. I have never made any sort of serious effort to cause any of my 5 poinsettias to bloom again - I keep them for the greenery, but this one decided to go for it. Some sort of perfect combination of light, water and feeding this year.

Serendipity always gets me enthusiastic.

3.6 amaryllis

This is the last of my amaryllis to bloom. I've had one or another blooming for quite some time now. This one is my first ever double. I'm not terribly fond of double blooms in general (they strike me as messy) but this one is really cute. And huge. It's almost a foot across.

It has to hold me over until the crocus start blooming, maybe in another month or so.

3.5 rose

Thank you all for your good wishes. We had a nice, though somewhat ordinary middle-of-the-week day.

A dozen red roses did go over well, I must say!
